$ $ $ HAPPY DOLLARS $ $ $
Happy Dollars were varied today ranging
from our guests to wondering who won the
World Series. Our Kearney, Nebraska
folks, who have been coming for 10 years
now, missed seeing the members who are
no longer with us. Their friends were
taking advantage of the meeting as 1/2 of
a make up meeting for Rotary.
Bob D congratulated Nebraska for having
the "best college football around."
Speaking of congratulations, Kristin told us
that she had a fabulous new job working
for The Healthy Children Project. Sounds
exciting. Hope we hear more about it.
Hmmmm. What shall I be happy about today?

Our
"This Is Your Life" Speaker
today was Pablo (Paul) Alarie. He shared many interesting stories with us. Born in
industrialized Worcester in 1929, he soon acclimated to the ethnicity of the area. His French-speaking parents raised
their family in the French ghetto/conclave where they grew up speaking French. His father did allow them to speak
English in the home, but never at the table. Pablo now speaks a mixture of 5 French dialects. Growing up with a
strong work ethic, he started to earn money as young as 8 years old scraping paint and taking off wallpaper. At 12
years old, he was working in a grocery store. After graduating from Boston University with a Bachelor of Science
degree in 1947, which he acquired after only 2 years and 9 months, he joined the Navy, achieving Captain after 27
years. Connecting with his wife Terry was no easy task. In a desperate attempt to have a date for a Naval event, his
parents urged him to call their best friends' niece. Having already been turned down by three other young women, he
decided to give it a try, particularly since they had been hounding him for months to take her out. She accepted. The
rest is history - which we will hear all about when they return from Puerto Rico. Thank you, Pablo, for your humor and
letting us in on some of the little known facts about you.
Who is that dapper young sailor? . . . .
Oh my word, it’s Pablo!!
