Since the Builders Club did not meet this week due to Parent/Teacher Conferences, Rev Richard
shared some "words of wisdom" (?) with us entitled, Tw as the Night of Thanksgiving. Sorry, for
some reason they were not available for print!
$ $ $ HAPPY DOLLARS $ $ $
In addition to both Mary Jane and Sam putting in $$ for their 59 years of wedded bliss, there were
many more congratulatory $$ for them. Bob W’s $ included the comment that Mary Jane was
well on her way to sainthood (The editor will vote for that!). Some continue to travel hither and
yon or are making plans to do so. We are glad to hear that Christine Johnson's trip to the ER
was just for a pulled muscle and not a heart attack as she initially thought. Evelyn was home
again this morning with a cold. Recover soon, Evelyn. We have another play to attend. Kristin
and her son are in Peter Pan, Kristin as a pirate and son as one of the lost sons. Jack B and Bob
D encouraged sign ups for the Governor's visit. Hope to see you there.

Today’s Program: Anne Haney, Development Officer for RHCI first thanked us for all the support Kiwanis has given to
the Rehabilitation Hospital of the Cape and Islands (RHCI) in Sandwich, specifically to the Children's Pediatric Center. In
fact, it was our Division's initial pledge of $50,000 that made this center possible. In 2001, in the early stages of
development, it was one small room in the main hospital's facility. This soon outgrew its space and spread into the
hallway. In 2005, the Pediatric Center moved to a separate space in Heritage Park on Route 130 in order to
accommodate the number of children being serviced. Following another expansion in the same building and recent
renovations, the facility has grown from 400 to 5200 square feet of space. In Oc tober of this year, Kiwanis and other
supporting organizations were invited to an Open House celebrating this milestone. Kiwanis' role in seeing this project
come to fruition was another donation of $50,000.
Part of Anne's program today was presenting a video of Christian, who was born without any lower extremities. He is
now 12 and actively participates in swimming, soccer, and skateboarding. In the video we saw what it was like for him to
receive his first prosthetic devices. He had seen the possibilities of what it would be like to walk and run on a Disney
program and wished for something like that one day. Well, Christian's wish came true. He couldn't have been more
surprised OR THANKFUL! Our club's most recent donation of $500 has been used to purchase a tike size table and
chairs set, grab balls, a Little Tykes basketball hoop that is height adjustable, and indoor/outdoor playground balls.
RHCI opened in Sandwich in 1995, and now has outpatient facilities in Orleans, Yarmouth and Bourne. In 2004, they
admitted their 25,000th patient and in 2005, their 50,000th. Orleans, which now has a 2 week waiting period, is looking
towards expansion. To be included in this expansion is pediatric services. We thank Irene (and Len) for having Anne
with us again this morning. Anne has become family and we always enjoy seeing her. If you haven't toured the Pediatric
Children's Center, call Anne and she will arrange for you to see it firsthand.
